NetGranny keeps your feet warm
For christmas 2006 the swiss fashion brand TARZAN, located in Basel, has launched the project NetGranny: Netgranny is a collective of 15 grandmothers who knit socks on demand and sell them online. Customers can choose their favourite granny from a gallery of ‘Grosis, pick the colour and size of their socks and after 2-3 weeks they'll receive their pair of dream socks made of swiss quality wool.
Until now, handknitted socks have been mainly sold on rural markets or in handcraft shops. Distribution via online-shop appeals to the modern urban people, who is used to fulfill his needs on the internet and still loves nothing more than cozy handmade socks. On the other side the grannies, all passionnate knitters, have found a vast clientele who cherishes their work. This unique project will be expanded with a new product for this winter season: look out for the wristlets. So forget additive-free, GM-free and preservative-free, granny power is the new organic.
